Description
Inspired by a Baroque banqueting pavilion in the gardens of Montacute House, Somerset, Montacute Pavilion is a unique and remarkable building nestled among ancient chestnut trees in a historic garden near the Wombat Hill Gardens. Shops and cafés are just a few streets away. Explicitly designed for couples as a romantic luxury retreat the emphasis is on privacy and indulgence, with the upper floor consisting of a large bedroom in the treetops and a remarkably appointed bathroom.
Like the English country houses on which it is modelled, it has a blend of antique and modern furnishings. It is super-cosy in winter (gas log fires) and cool in summer (aircon in every room). There is fully equipped kitchen and comfortable sitting room downstairs, as well as a second king-size/twin bedroom with ensuite. There is off-street parking and flat screen TVs with Netflix. Each stay includes toiletries by Malin & Goetz, a hamper packed with regional treats and a complimentary bottle of Passing Clouds’ ‘Graeme’s Blend’ Shiraz.
In spring the garden is a riot of colour: swathes of daffodils and bluebells, huge rhododendrons and camellias. In summer the big trees keep it lush, leafy and shady. It is mellow in autumn (help yourself to fruit and chestnuts, and enjoy the autumn leaves) while in winter you can gaze down over the garden from cosy sofas and armchairs, kept snug by the gas log fires.
