Gumtree Spring is a 5 bedroom mud brick home set on 5 acres of bush only three minutes from Daylesford. Accommodating up to 18 guests, this lovely country property is ideal for extended families or as group accommodation.
Gumtree Spring is an architect-designed mud-brick, master-built home, crafted by skilled local tradesmen. It is one of the best examples of its type in the district and exudes character, quality, and warmth throughout. The house is self-sufficient with solar hot water (and gas boost), solar electricity panels, double-sided open wood fireplace, hydronic heating, and a huge rainwater tank. Features include the wonderfully restored and recycled ironbark & ghost gum timber which comes from the historic Botany Bay woolsheds.
Owner Graeme and his family have strong links to the region. His love for the area dates back to when he was a child and would visit his grandparents who owned a farm just outside of Daylesford at Newlyn.
He continued to visit the region throughout his childhood and into adulthood with his own family and rented various holiday houses before deciding it was time to build something of his own to share with his family and friends.
It’s great to have somewhere all of our extended family can gather together and share some time under one roof. It’s an eco-friendly seven-star-energy rated home. We collect rainwater and generate a lot of our own power. It feels like you’re off the grid for a little while. We love the mudbrick “non-city” ambience of Gumtree Spring having built it from the ground up ourselves. It’s just so different from anything in the city. Extensive use of recycled timbers throughout is so warm and says “country living”. We love waking up in this quiet and peaceful location with absolute bush out the window.
Gumtree Spring is one of the most comfortable group homes in Daylesford. With its 5 bedrooms that sleep up to 18 people all under one roof, there are bunks and beds everywhere! It’s fun and relaxing, a place where people can let go and have fun as a group. The large spacious living/dining area caters to everyone and provides plenty of space to break out into groups and enjoy the surroundings. However, the beauty of Gumtree Spring is that there is enough space for everyone to come together and enjoy each other’s company. An 18-seat dining table can host memorable meals and the fireside lounge may be the scene of many hilarious games of charades or movie marathons. Or guests may just want to sprawl about the space and gaze through the huge windows to the surrounding bush, looking to spot a kangaroo!
The large fully equipped games room features an interchangeable pool & table tennis table as well as table soccer and TV. High feature windows in this room, allow more great views of the bush outside and lovely natural light. What more can the young and young at heart ask for?
Outside under a huge shade sail, there is another entertainment area to gather and enjoy the outdoors. A timber outdoor setting and barbeque is adjacent to a well-maintained cleared area for the kids to run and play a game of footy or cricket. Or you can spread out on the bean bags provided and read a book. There is no better way to get closer to nature and enjoy the great outdoors and ambience.
Set back from Trentham Road on a 5-acre bush block, it is ideally suited for privacy, seclusion, and relaxation. There is a creek flowing through the property with two water feature ponds, and a view of the bush greets you from every room.
This home is so close to town that you can be part of the action if you want to be – award-winning restaurants and cafes, exciting shopping, regional festivals, diverse markets and much more are all just 3 minutes’ drive away to the heart of Daylesford. Or come prepared and stay in and enjoy the feeling of being far away from it all and relax into the quiet of the bush, the creek and the nature that surrounds.
For Graeme and his family, he loves to visit Gumtree Spring and do just that.
We’re more than happy just staying at the house and enjoying good company in a lovely environment. At times however we will venture out to markets, local restaurants or go on a day trip to one of the historic local towns nearby. It’s only one hour from Melbourne but you feel like you’re much further away. We love sharing the house and having others here to enjoy it too.
