Perched on top of a ridge on the slopes of the iconic Mount Franklin sits ‘Sky High’; a stunning example of modern architecture that enjoys unparalleled views of the surrounding hills and farmland.
Built by local award-winning builders Josh and Tik White of Spa Country Builders, the property is owned by their close friends leading Melbourne Naturopath Hamish Everard and his wife Courtney.
Hamish and Courtney have been regular visitors to the region for over 10 years. The Swiss-Italian heritage of the area and the similarities to their favourite region in Italy, drew them here time and time again. It had been their dream to set up a health and wellness retreat in the Daylesford area and they had keenly watched their friends Josh and Tik create Sky High from the dirt up. Josh used to joke that Hamish and Courtney should purchase it and come auction day (which coincidently was also Hamish’s birthday) they did! Josh and Tik were elated and loved the couple’s vision for Sky High.
With a background in health and wellness, (Hamish and Courtney run two Naturopathy clinics in Melbourne and Hamish is also an international speaker to the health and wellness industry), it was only natural that they envisage Sky High as a space not only for fun and relaxation but also wellness and rejuvenation.
The arrival point is via a central courtyard hub around which the other rooms radiate. The home intimately engages with its context and climate, drawing on local traditions, such as the stone walls used in the living area and master bedroom which are a common feature of historic homes in the Mt Franklin district. Four king-size bedrooms with king split beds offer flexible bedding arrangements that effortlessly cater to groups of friends, couples or families. European Oak and floor to ceiling windows with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside will have you staying in bed gazing into the distance. A freestanding bath in the master and three exquisite bathrooms and a powder room cater to groups of up to eight.
The position of the living dining area with the centrepiece kitchen and stone fireplace, captures to full advantage the inspiring sunrises and equally breathtaking sunsets that create a dynamic play of light and colour over the idyllic landscape. The sculpted, hand forged finishes are all at work here: polished concrete hyper floor, concrete kitchen bench tops, bespoke, curved glass skylight and designer sink and tapware all combine to create a memorable space for you to gather no matter what the occasion.
The sweeping 360 deg panoramic views and spacious internal layout also provide an ideal space for group wellness activities such as yoga or meditation. Contemplate a bigger vision for your life whilst using the ample space to bring in yoga or meditation practitioners or other wellness modalities to help guide you along the way.
Hamish and Courtney were also drawn to the property as a space for corporate gatherings, recognising that many of their corporate clients would benefit from this sort of space. The inspiring property features a 3.3m American maple dining table ideal for facilitating meetings or long lunches and dinners. Work and relaxation can blend for an incredible stay.
Sky High is located on the slopes of Mt Franklin, an extinct volcano and well-known landmark renowned for its mineral water as well as its vicinity to Daylesford, which was recently voted the most popular small-town weekend destination in Australia.
A walk to the top of Mt Franklin is a must during your visit to Sky High; take along a picnic to enjoy in the crater before returning home for a dip in the saltwater plunge pool. Only 10 minutes outside of Daylesford & Hepburn Springs and 20 minutes from Castlemaine, Sky High is well placed to explore the region with renowned restaurants, wineries and day spas all only a stone’s throw away.
All of these elements combined create a truly transcendent home that is now available for guests to enjoy. Hamish and Courtney fell in love with this stunning masterpiece and hope that you will now too.
