Located on ‘the beach’ at the iconic Lake Daylesford, the Lake Daylesford Apartments have been enchanting visitors since first opening the doors to guests in the early 1950’s. Refurbished by the new owner Jay, the apartments still retain the old world charm that has kept guests coming back for the past 65 years.

Jay remembers coming to Daylesford years ago and thinking what a unique country town it was, so close to Melbourne, with amazing restaurants, and a real country feel. He loved walking around the Lake and clearly remembers when he saw Lake Daylesford Apartments for the first time. He thought to himself, as most people do when they lay eyes on the building, “what an enchanting property, wouldn’t it be amazing to live there”.

A couple of years later, Jay was taking another walk around the Lake, which had since become one of his favourite rituals whenever he visited Daylesford, and saw the Apartments were up for sale. Jay had a crazy dream that maybe HE could buy it! He contacted the booking agency to book an apartment for the weekend to try it for himself. It was a magical and relaxing place to stay.

“Sitting out on the verandah with a drink, enjoying the view of the garden and Lake Daylesford, while the sun set to the sounds of birds. It was the best nights sleep and most relaxing weekend I had in a long time. All I could think of was that everyone should be able to experience this. So first thing Monday I rang the real-estate agent and made an offer, and as they say the rest is history”.

The history of Lake Daylesford Apartments is still a bit of a mystery to Jay. Whilst familiarising himself with the building he came across a hidden staircase and doorway to the basement that appeared to have been covered up for years. In his search to find out more he did find a newspaper advertisement from The Age on June 20th 1953, which described the property as “7 Luxurious Flats at Central Springs Daylesford”. Back then the building was called “Cronulla”. He knew then that the building has been providing lake front accommodation for many years. Jay also discovered that at some point in its history, the building had a small shop on the street that sold refreshments for people visiting the lake.

When contemplating a refurbishment, he wanted the property to retain its unique character while being stylish and comfortable, inviting people to relax. So at the start of 2017 he contacted friend and Interior Designer Belinda at Belinda Wandaller Design, to help pull his ideas together. As Belinda said,

What struck me with this beautiful property was the old world charm of the building situated in such a relaxing pocket of Daylesford, right on the lake. I was inspired by all of the surrounding vibrant greens and wanted to bring a bit of the exterior tranquillity into each apartment. Each room was to have it’s own distinct feel and a relaxing haven which had to have broad appeal. Blues & greens were the main colour inspiration, borrowing the green from the lawns surrounding the lake and introducing a palette of blues and neutrals for each apartment.

Subtle patterns in the sumptuous bed linen and calming artwork create a relaxing atmosphere. These lovely touches make Lake Daylesford Apartments the perfect weekend getaway with a few comforts from home.

When guests arrive Jay wants them to feel relaxed and have any stress of the week fade away. His favourite part of the property is its location on the lake and the verandahs with the stunning garden views. This is the perfect place to spend those warm summer days where you can set up for the day on the grassy banks of Lake Daylesford.

Guests can stroll a little further around the lake to The Boathouse for breakfast and lunch, or the famous Lake House Restaurant for dinner. And a quick 2 minute drive will have guests in the main street of Daylesford and everything it has to offer.

Daylesford has so many beautiful restaurants and cafés. For something very special Jay thinks you can’t go past Sault Restaurant. For him it’s not just the amazing food and exceptional service; but also the stunning views out over the lavender fields that make for a wonderful experience. He also always enjoys an evening meal at The Daylesford Hotel, and breakfast or lunch at The Boathouse or Cliffy’s. But a lot of the guests staying at Lake Daylesford Apartments take the 5 minute walk to the Lake House Restaurant for a magical dining experience. What an incredible part of the world!

We have regular repeat guests who call this place their home away from home, this was my aim so I am thrilled. Dreams do come true!
