Aghadoe: An 1860’s Australian homestead with a charming French sensibility

A stunning 1860's homestead with a stylish modern makeover, Aghadoe accommodates up to 10 guests in picturesque surrounds at Springmount, just 20 minutes outside of Daylesford.
Aghadoe

Finding Aghadoe was a dream come true for Diana and Daniel. They had been looking for a period farmhouse on land for quite a while, and when it came up for sale they jumped on it. The garden setting was perfect for them, with mature trees, large lawn areas, and abundant fruit and nut trees. The views of the surrounding countryside are amazing, it’s just so Australian, yet the home has a feeling that could place you anywhere in the world.

The homestead has been extensively renovated with a French farmhouse style interior. The five bedrooms are spacious; every room has charm and character and they all share a very special feeling of grandeur. The studio, separate from the main house, features a retreat and ensuite. Two living rooms each with fireplaces, allow plenty of space for those big family getaways. The galley style kitchen is an entertainer’s delight, everyone can chip in with the cooking or just sit and chat around the huge island bench. The light that floods in through the windows is stunning and you can take in a lovely view of the gardens from every room. Ducted heating and cooling throughout are a big bonus that ensures comfort no matter the season.

Aghadoe

The location appealed to the couple as it is ideally located only a short drive to both Daylesford and Ballarat and is surrounded by activities for adults and kids alike.

For a day out with the family, head to Tuki Trout Farm at nearby Smeaton. Here you are guaranteed to catch a fish that you can either take home or have cooked for you in the restaurant for lunch! For more outdoors activities, those with mountain bikes might be keen to try the mountain bike trails at nearby Creswick or for something at a more leisurely pace head to Hepburn Lagoon Trail Rides for a fantastic horse-riding adventure. Sovereign Hill at Ballarat is a fun day out for all the family where you try your hand at gold panning and learn the history of Victoria’s gold rush days. If after all of that activity, mum and dad need some downtime, the Goldfields Golf Resort is just a short drive away for a hit of golf, or head into Daylesford and enjoy some serious pampering at one of the many day spas on offer.

If taking it easy and staying in is more your style, back at Aghadoe there is plenty to do. Outside the kids can run wild in one of the many large open lawn areas perfect for a family footy or cricket match. The kids will delight in all of the farm animals including cows, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, and geese. Take a stroll through the veggie patch and orchard and pick some fresh produce to cook up a storm in the kitchen.

This is country living at its best, you won’t want to leave!
