Hemingway House is the ideal house for rest, rejuvenation, and good times. Decorated in plantation style, guests feel like they may be on vacation in an exotic location. Inspired by the writer Hemingway’s homes in Florida and Cuba, the owners have created what the writer desired – a welcoming refuge from the world. The house was lovingly curated over 18 months of lockdown. It has hints of formality without sacrificing warmth, brightness and comfort. Think green leafy plants, plantation-style ceiling fans, bird and botanical-themed art, and vintage travel memorabilia. Think Hemingway. The house offers lots of natural light, yet there is plenty of mood lighting for a long evening of entertainment.
Large couches in the living area cry out for guests to snuggle up with a good book or film. Nearby is the well-stocked chef’s kitchen where you can cook up a storm with the local produce (isn’t this why you came?) and prepare a wonderful meal to share with loved ones. Grab a champagne bucket and choose between eating in the more casual alfresco dining area or perhaps creating a more memorable dining experience in the moody dining room. The owners can attest to its suitability for a lively dinner party!
Bespoke luxurious bedheads feature in each of the four bedrooms with king-sized beds that can be reconfigured as two king singles. These beds promise to deliver the most restful sleep imaginable. Tropical touches feature in every room. The Master bedroom leads into a walk-in-robe which opens onto a large ensuite. The visual charm of this bathroom with Venetian paint and Jacobean vanity creates the perfect space to spend time as you prepare for a special event in Spa Country…
The atmospheric main bathroom is its own destination. Gorgeous finishes surround a large slipper bath. Beautiful bath salts are provided to enhance your luxurious bath experience…perhaps relaxing with a glass of bubbly!
Down the end of a long corridor is “Hemingway’s writing desk” – with his typewriter, old printing trays, and some of the many books he has written.
As well as an alfresco dining area off the kitchen, the house has an outdoor Patio known as “Raffles”. During the cooler months, turn on the ceiling heaters and lower the awnings to create another cozy chill zone. Enjoy a lazy afternoon or perhaps wheel out the drinks trolley and enjoy a Singapore Sling before dinner.
In the garden, you will find a few special nooks to sit and enjoy gazing at the trees and listening to the bird calls from the nearby lake. A little bench outside the front gate is a sneaky spot to sit at dusk admiring the sunset. You might also hear the joyous sounds of a table tennis match taking place in the garage…
And now for the final surprise – across the back lawn, if you can make it past the fire pit and the enticing Adirondack chairs, you will reach the stunning spa house. A fun, social space, perfect for entertaining, and the definition of spa-house cool. With built-in bar, kitchenette, rattan furniture, this space is fun and social. French doors lead to a large spa with colour and water features. A separate powder room for changing and amenities so that you will not need to leave once you arrive! Afternoon cocktails anyone?
With various zones to relax in, a group of friends or family can enjoy Hemingway without feeling confined. Lake Daylesford is literally a few minutes away at the end of the street and the delightful main street of town is a few minutes walk in the other direction, this location is unbeatable. We just want you to arrive, relax and enjoy the Hemingway experience as much as we have.
