Hepburn Springs Quick facts

  • Population: 750
  • 115km north-west of Melbourne

Hepburn Springs is located at the 'Spa Centre of Australia'. Alluvial gold deposits were worked during the mid 1800's, but discovery of the natural mineral springs led to the bottling of this refreshing water. The biggest concentration of mineral springs is found around Hepburn and its twin city Daylesford. The springs are full of health-giving minerals, which occur naturally in different formulations, giving every spring a distinctive taste.

Take a walk through Hepburn Regional Park in spring and view the colourful display of wildflowers. A wide range of animals and birds inhabit the area. The park contains a range of bushwalks at various degrees of difficulty. A map for these walks can be found at the Daylesford Information Centre. Scenic attractions in the park include The Blowhole and Breakneck Gorge. A visit to the Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve will give you a chance to sample the mineral waters and if the weather allows, a picnic in the park!

Buildings on Main road reflect the number of Italians and Swiss Italians who settled in the area during the mid 1800's. The Old Macaroni Factory is a National Estate Listed building built in 1895 which has remained in the family of the original owners. Italian frescoes decorate the ceilings and walls. Built by Giacomo and Pietro Lucini, the first Australian pasta manufacturers. Another fine example of architecture in the area is the Art Deco Springs Retreat Hotel. Built in the 1930's The Springs Retreat features Deco Restaurant, recommended by The Age Good Food Guide, as well as the peaceful Springs Retreat Mineral Spa.

Venture just outside Hepburn Springs and visit Lavandula Lavender Farm, The Cricket Willow and The Chocolate Mill.
